Hands on Theatre at Metropolitan Learning Center
Posted 02/27/08
The Hands On Theatre Program sends highly-qualified theatre professionals into high schools. Students participate in a multi-disciplinary program as they engage themselves in all aspects of staging a play-acting, costume and stage design, sound and light design, as well as researching historical and thematic subjects addressed in the play. The program culminates in a production written by Profile Theatre's featured playwright, with students performing for families, students and friends at the school site.
During the 2007-2008 school year, Profile has placed artist-in-residence Liz Hayden to implement the program at Roosevelt High School and Metropolitan Learning Center (MLC), with a third school site yet to be announced. Performance dates for the May 2008 productions at Roosevelt High School have yet to be set.
At MLC, there are 26 students involved in the many aspects of this production (set design and construction, lighting, and acting).Students will be performing the following plays written by John Guare, Profile Theatre's featured playwright for 2007-2008: Muzeeka, Rich & Famous, A Talking Dog, and The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year.
