To Kill a Mockingbird
By Horton Foote
Directed by Pam SterlingIn 1962 Horton Foote received his first Academy Award for his adaptation to the screen of this Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee. Foote’s screenplay, constructed as a series of episodes recalled by its narrator, Scout, is set in a small Alabama town in 1932 and concerns the trial of an unjustly accused black man who is steadfastly defended by Scout’s father, a respected lawyer in the town. This classic tale examines the painful consequences of hate and prejudice and one man’s courageous efforts to overcome those powerful forces.
